James does everything one would expect in a line edit such as adding and deleting text and substituting better word choices. But he goes much deeper than that. He sets the stage and visualizes scenes to ensure everything interacts correctly in time and place. He carefully monitors pace and the need for good transitions. He delves into the minds and hearts of characters to understand how they would respond to the words and behaviors of others. He makes sure that tone and voice remain consistent throughout. He fact checks elements of law and the manner in which certain actions would occur. He brings a depth of understanding that has helped me enormously in shaping my story the best way possible. I could not have asked for more and will be forever grateful.

As a foreigner using English as the second language, it is not an easy task for me to find and choose right words and better-organized expressions. James actually does everything that I expected in a text edit, and I observe that my academic write-up gets significantly improved. Beyond the text edit, he has deep understanding in academic articles. He carefully checks the logical flow of statements, and suggests more optimized word choices, bringing new intuitions in scientific writing to me.

I really appreciate his sincere help.

One of the statements that will always stay with me is the leading remark: "the writing is good, but this is not well written".

The nitty-gritty aspects of his editing were a tour de force, yet James did not get lost in the details of each word, sentence, or paragraph. Instead, he correctly diagnosed that content was lacking clarity of vision and attention to detail. Although the revelation stung a little (I was quite pleased with the document I had crafted), James's edits and feedback helped transformed my proposal from a cocktail of science-isms into a traversable path to success.

Oh! and working with James is fun. Look no further than some of the comments in the provided example.
